A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Emeka Bekee, has stated that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is fighting for his political survival.
Bekee stated this on Wednesday while fielding questions on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.
The statement comes amid the political rivalry between the FCT Minister and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
He said, “What I think Minister Nyesom Wike is doing now is he’s fighting for survival. He’s fighting for survival right now. Nothing more.”
This is even as the APC chieftain hinted during the interview that all the governors who recently defected to the APC might be given automatic tickets for their second term.
Meanwhile, Bekee has expressed optimism that Fubara will contest in the 2027 election.
Wike had vowed to stop Fubara’s re-election bid, stressing that the 2023 mistake would not be made in 2027.
However, Becker while speaking during the interview said, “Well, I don’t know the negotiation they have up there. I can tell you clearly, APC is one political party that I have been in the party from the formation of the party till present day.
“Today, APC has different method of conducting elections by consensus, by voice vote, and all that. Fubara is going to buy nomination form to run for election for APC in 2027. Nobody is going to give him an automatic ticket.
“All of us will be surprised that all the governors who have joined the party, they will have automatic ticket. Fubara is going to benefit from that. Nobody’s going to stop that. But if they say they want to go for a fair and fair primary, if he emerges and he wins, he’s going to become the candidate for the party for 2027.
“We think that Rivers State has to move forward. We don’t need to find ourselves in this crisis. I think that Rivers has to move forward. If the agreement between the center and the governors is that they will have a second term, Fubara will have his second term. Nobody can deny him that.”
