The lawmaker representing Sokoto South in the Senate, Aminu Tambuwal, has dismissed claims that there was an agreement suggesting that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, would be his running mate in the 2019 elections.
Tambuwal said that there was no such agreement when he ran for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries in 2019.
He stated this on Monday while fielding questions during an interview on Arise Television.
He explained that he and Wike were simply partners, and the Minister never asked to be his vice presidential candidate.
The lawmaker stated that Wike never gave him any condition, despite being his main support at the time.
He said: “Wike was my partner at the time, when I ran for the PDP presidential ticket in 2019, I and Wike didn’t have any pact (agreement) of him being my running mate.
“It has been said that he asked to be Vice President, but not at all. He never requested that, I must be fair to him.
“He never gave me any condition, despite being my main backer, that this is what he must take or must have.
“He identified me as someone young and who can do the job. I believed that it was about my class and not opportunism of going to manipulate.”
