Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has raised a strong alarm over what he described as a deliberate move to damage his reputation and political standing.
The governor claimed that powerful forces are working against him because of his role as an opposition figure.
Speaking during a televised interview, Mohammed alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is central to the plot.
He said the attacks are targeted and calculated, aimed at silencing him and weakening his influence within national politics.
The governor firmly rejected allegations linking him to banditry or terrorism. He said such claims are false and dangerous.
According to him, Bauchi State remains one of the safest states in the North-East, a result of deliberate planning, intelligence-driven security strategies, and consistent leadership.
Mohammed warned that branding opposition leaders as criminals is a common political tactic. He described the situation as an attempt to “give a dog a bad name” in order to justify persecution. He insisted that his name and integrity are under threat and must be defended at all levels.
The Bauchi governor also disclosed that he has formally written to the Attorney General of the Federation. He said security agencies have been copied in the letter. He added that he is considering taking the matter beyond Nigeria, citing concerns over victimisation and the violation of his fundamental human rights.
He further alleged that threats were made against his state. According to him, such statements point to a wider plan to intimidate and destabilise him politically. He described the experience as painful, especially when family members were allegedly dragged into corruption narratives without evidence.
Mohammed also criticised the current political environment around President Bola Tinubu. He claimed that the president is surrounded by individuals who are more interested in political manipulation than good governance. He warned that such influences could harm both the administration and the country.
The governor accused Wike of working against the interests of the Peoples Democratic Party. He described the FCT minister as a burden to both the party and the federal government. Mohammed insisted that Wike cannot openly align with the ruling party while claiming loyalty to the PDP.
He called for honesty and restraint among political leaders. He warned against arrogance and abuse of power, stressing that actions taken today will have long-term consequences for Nigeria’s democracy.
The crisis within the PDP has deepened since the party lost the 2023 presidential election. Internal divisions have worsened, leading to multiple expulsions, counter-expulsions, and high-profile defections.
Several governors and party leaders have either left the PDP or are openly at odds with its leadership.
