The Senior Special Assistant to Minister Nyesom Wike on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, has debunked trending reports that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) ordered all government schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to close by November 28, 2025.
Olayinka, in a statement on Tuesday, described the report as ‘fake news.’
Earlier, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had ordered all public senior secondary schools in Abuja to shut down on or before Friday, November 28, following heightened security concerns in the nation’s capital.
The directive was contained in an internal memo issued on Tuesday by Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services, FCT Secondary Education Board.
In the memo addressed to principals and heads of schools, the FCTA instructed that all academic activities must cease without delay, stressing the need for a coordinated and safe dismissal of students.
However, Olayinka described reports about the early closure as false and misleading, urging parents and students to dismiss the rumour as the FCT academic calendar remains unchanged.
He also disclosed that the FCT Minister has ordered the immediate suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, over the development.
Naijaonpoint reports that Wike also ordered the FCT Acting Head of Service, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan, to discipline the Director, School Services, Mrs Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in accordance with the civil service rules.
The full statement debunking the reports of early closure of schools reads: “The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has debunked the report that all Government Schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were mandated to close by November 28, 2025, saying that “no such decision was taken at any level of the administration.
“Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Public Communications and Social Media, also said that the Minister has directed the immediate suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo.
“The Acting Head of Service, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has also been mandated to discipline the Director, School Services, Mrs Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in accordance with the civil service rules.
“Describing the report on early closure of schools as false and misleading, the administration urged parents, students, and school authorities to dismiss the rumour, stressing that the approved academic calendar remained unchanged.
“The FCTA also assured residents of the FCT, especially students of adequate security, adding that the Minister has directed the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security initiatives in the federal capital.”
