Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing his death as a great loss for Nigeria and the Muslim Ummah.

With “a heavy heart,” Obi said in a condolence message that he joins millions of Nigerians in mourning the passing of the respected cleric.

“Sheikh Dahiru was not only a towering Islamic scholar and a distinguished Hafiz of the Qur’an, but also a man of peace, and a father figure to many across our nation,” Obi said.

Obi reminded Nigerians that Sheikh Dahiru’s transition is a profound loss to Nigeria and to the entire Ummah, honouring the late cleric’s decades-long commitment to religious scholarship and spiritual guidance.

He offered condolences on behalf of his family and the broader Obidient family, extending sympathies to the late cleric’s immediate family, the people of Bauchi State and the entire Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood in Nigeria.

“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and grant all of us the fortitude to bear this very painful loss,” Obi prayed.

Naijaonpoint reports that the death of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was confirmed earlier on Thursday by family members and religious leaders.

The 98-year-old, according to some media, passed away after a brief illness.

Regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential religious figures, he served as the national leader of the Tijjaniyya Sufi order.
