The DC Universe is set to bring Wonder Woman back to the big screen, as Diana will be one of the major heroes to factor into James Gunn’s superhero reboot. While the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate is still early in its run, the iconic Themyscira heroine will be part of DC Studios’ interconnected universe.
During a new interview with M.C.U.N., Patty Jenkins, who directed the Wonder Woman films in the DCEU, was asked if she would consider re-exploring Diana as a new iteration is on its way. Jenkins stated, “You know what, you never say never because I love Wonder Woman.”
However, the filmmaker stressed that “At the moment, I am so excited with what I am doing and it’s always good to do something new.” While she “loved making superhero movies,” Jenkins added that, “you never know, but I am having a good time.”
Jenkins directed and co-wrote the first Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot as the titular hero in the DCEU movie timeline, as the 2017 entry grossed more than $823 million at the box office, becoming one of the few successes in the previous superhero franchise.
The filmmaker returned as the director and co-writer for Wonder Woman 1984, which was released in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time in 2020 during the global pandemic. The sequel only grossed $169 million at the worldwide box office, while also receiving mostly negative reviews.
A Wonder Woman 3 was initially in the works before the launch of DC Studios, which led to the sequel getting cancelled as it didn’t fit in with the plans that Gunn and his co-CEO, Peter Safran, were working on. The plans were eventually revealed to be the start of the DCU.
While a new actor for the DC icon has yet to be cast, the DCU’s Wonder Woman solo movie is being worked on at DC Studios, as revealed on June 10, 2025. Ana Nogueira, who also penned the Supergirl film, arriving in 2026, is writing the script.
Even though the search for the next star to play her hasn’t started, there have been several popular fancastings for Wonder Woman in the DCU, including Alexandra Daddario and Adria Arjona. A director has not been hired yet for Diana’s reboot film.
The DCU is also developing a Wonder Woman TV series, Paradise Lost, which will be a prequel, set long before Diana was even born, as the script is currently being written.
