SUPER Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong was one of the first players to arrive at the team’s camp in Uyo to begin preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
The three-time African champions host Rwanda in the Akwa Ibom State capital on Saturday before facing South Africa in Bloemfontein three days later as they attempt to rescue their flagging World Cup hopes.
Saudi Arabia-based Troost-Ekong arrived in camp yesterday, alongside goalkeeper Amas Obasogie and defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Felix Agu.
Agu, who plays for Werder Bremen in Germany, impressed on his Nigeria debut at the Unity Cup Tournament in London in the summer.
Forward Simon Moses, who scored and assisted for his new club Paris FC at the weekend, is also in camp, along with Greece-based goalkeeper Adeleye Adebayo, defenders Chidozie Awaziem and Benjamin Fredericks, and midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Full-back Ola Aina, fellow defenders Bright Osayi-Samuel and Calvin Bassey, and midfielder Alex Iwobi have also arrived in Uyo.
First-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, back in training after an injury scare last week, is being expected on Tuesday evening.
Midfielder Christantus Uche, who completed a move to Crystal Palace from Getafe on Monday, is still being expected alongside forwards Samuel Chukwueze (now at Fulham from AC Milan of Italy), Tolu Arokodare (now at Wolves from KRC Genk) and Cyriel Dessers (now at Panathinaikos from Glasgow Rangers).
African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen and midfielder Raphael Onyedika are also being expected.
The Super Eagles will have their first training session at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium this evening.
