A yet-to-be-identified worshipper has been killed after bandits invaded Marnona village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The worshipper was killed during early morning prayers as the attackers stormed a mosque in the community.
They were said to have opened fire on the worshippers in the community while sending other residents into panic.
Several other residents of the community were said to have been abducted by the bandits during the attack.
The Sokoto State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Isah Achida, confirmed the attack on the community.
He also described the attack as “barbaric” and “an act of cowardice.”
He condemned the target of innocent worshippers in a sacred place.
“The perpetrators must be brought to justice, and our people must remain united to defeat this menace,” Achida said.
In addition, the police in Sokoto said an investigation has been launched into the attack.
Police spokesperson, Ahmed Rufai, said the command will issue a detailed statement soon.
