Yahaya Bello vs Natasha Akpoti 1

Immediate past Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has formally indicated interest in the Kogi central senatorial seat presently being occupied by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

By the declaration, the ex governor, who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will be challenging Akpoti-Uduaghan who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.

Bello made the declaration on Tuesday in when he visited the foremost traditional ruler in Ebiraland, the Ohinoyi, where he met with other traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders from the district.

A video of the visit and his declaration was being share across social media platforms as of Tuesday.

“I accept to run for the Senate in 2027,” Yahaya Bello said while addressing the gathering.

He was accompanied on the visit by the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo and other politicians and community leaders from Ebiraland.

There have been no love lost between Bello and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan since the senator got elected to the Senate in 2023.

There have been a number of clashes and proxy political wars between the senator and the former governor.

The tussle got to a climax last March when the senator alleged plans by the former governor, who she said was acting in cahoots with other top political actors to assassinate her.

Several attempts, apparently instigated by her opponents to recall the female senator earlier in the year failed woefully.
