Award-winning Afrobeat singer Burna Boy has reacted to the criticisms he received for detaining rapper, Speed Darlington.

Kemi Filani reported that Speed Darlington was arrested on 27 November during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, marking his second detention in two months. His legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, claimed that Burna Boy was behind his arrest and detention.

Providing an update on Monday, the rapper’s lawyer, Stanley Alieke of Law Capitol, issued a statement confirming that his client was now being formally charged in court. Mr Alieke also expressed frustration over Darlington’s continued detention for over a week. He stressed that Darlington was entitled to bail under Nigerian law, as defamation is no longer a criminal offense in Nigeria. He noted that civil action, not police intervention, should resolve such cases.

The revelation had left many dragging Burna Boy for arresting the controversial rapper.

Responding to them via his Instagram story, Burna noted how when Speed and others talk, nobody cares, but when he reacts it’s a Nuclear disaster. The Grammy stated that people don’t know how lucky they are. They have too much to lose, and if not, many wouldn’t be alive.

“When they talk, nobody cares, but when I react, it’s a Nuclear disaster. Y’all don’t know how lucky you are that I have too much to lose now. Walahi a lot of you would not be here no more. Anyway, make I just go buy another thing relax.

Burna Boy reacts to criticisms for arresting Speed Darlington

Refreshing your memory, Speed Darlington got himself into trouble due to his inquisition about Burnaboy’s relationship with American rapper and businessman P.Diddy. Speed noted how he had taken a photo with P.Diddy some years back, and shortly after Burna won a Grammy award. Quizzing him, he urged Burna to explain how he became more famous after meeting with P.Diddy.

Burna Boy had responded to his statement by filing a petition against him for alleged cyberstalking. The rapper was taken to Abuja where he was detained by the IRT team. Darlington’s mother alleged that Burna Boy and his team were responsible for her son’s arrest, and begged the Grammy singer to release her son.

After spending 3 days in detention, Speed Darlington was released on bail after meeting conditions stipulated by the police at the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team’s Department in the Guzape Area of Abuja.

Following his release, the rapper, via Instagram Live, vowed to deal with Burna. He stated that the Grammy singer would beg for his account number by the time he was through with him.

In another Love video, he said he could only forgive the Grammy singer if his mother publicly went on her knees and begged him for forgiveness on national TV just like his mom did. He added that the singer must also pay him N12 million as compensation.
