YNW Melly will have to remain behind bars for even longer as prosecutors are asking that his double murder retrial be postponed.
The retrial was set to begin in September, but according to the prosecution, the current appeal in district court precludes the retrial from starting at that time.
A hearing has been scheduled for July 9 to discuss the start date of the retrial.
The Florida rapper is accused of executing a cold-blooded plot to kill his close friends Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams in Miramar back in 2018. Prosecutors allege Melly not only pulled the trigger but also staged the scene to look like a drive-by shooting.
His affiliate and former friend, YNW Bortlen, is also set to face trial.
He has been in custody since his arrest in 2019, and his first trial from back in 2023 ended in a mistrial.
If found guilty, the prosecution says it could seek the death penalty.
He denies all of the charges against him.
