YNW Melly’s Double Murder Retrial Now Delayed Until 2027

MTO Square

YNW Melly will have to remain behind bars for another two years now that his double murder retrial date has been scheduled to kick off in 2027.

The retrial was initially supposed to begin next month, but on Friday, Florida’s 4th District Court of Appeals ruled that the case would not proceed as planned next month. Instead, the court will take more time to weigh a motion from the state attorney’s office over what evidence can be presented to the jury.

The 25-year-old rapper has been behind bars in Florida since early that year, accused in the shooting deaths of two friends.

Melly, real name Jamell Demons, stands accused of orchestrating the cold-blooded killings of his longtime friends and YNW affiliates Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams in Miramar, Florida, back in 2018. He has been in jail since 2019.

His first trial in 2023 ended in a mistrial after jurors couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict. Despite the gravity of the accusations, the “Murder on My Mind” artist has continued to proclaim his innocence.
