HEAVY rainfall lasting over 12 hours yesterday has washed away another bridge at Jumbam in Bursari Local Government Area along the Damaturu-Dapchi federal road in Yobe State.

This is coming three days after the Potiskum-Gashua road in Yobe State was severed.

Previously, this route served as an alternative connection between six local government areas in northern Yobe, some in eastern Yobe, and Damaturu, the state capital.

Bala Mohammed, a driver from Babbangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area, revealed that the incident occurred in the early hours of today.

This unfortunate event has now forced residents of nine local government areas—Machina, Nguru, Karasuwa, Bade, Jakusko, and Yusufari in northern Yobe, as well as Geidam, Yunusari, and Bursari in eastern Yobe—to rely on canoes to reach the state capital or travel over 500 kilometres through Hadejia in Jigawa State.

The disruption of these two major federal roads leading to the state capital has already crippled economic and farming activities in the northern and eastern parts of the state.
