Confirming the incident, Livinus Yilzoom, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, revealed today that the victims were not passengers but pedestrians standing by the roadside, likely preparing to cross after the close of market activities. “In an attempt to avoid hitting a pedestrian, the driver lost control due to excessive speed and struck five individuals, all of whom died,” Yilzoom explained. “A total of 19 people sustained injuries.” He added that upon receiving the report, the FRSC Unit Command in Dogon Kuka immediately deployed a crash investigation team to the scene. The injured were taken to Damagum General Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations attributed the crash to speeding and loss of control. Eyewitnesses also expressed concern over the growing number of markets located close to highways in many communities, especially during peak market days, warning that such setups pose serious safety risks.
