Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of engaging in “trial and error” with Nigeria’s security apparatus.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ibe claims that the persistent insecurity in the country is a direct result of the President prioritizing political patronage over competence in his security-related appointments.
Ibe made the comments in an 𝕏 post on Tuesday, just hours after the Presidency announced the nomination of former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), as the new Minister of Defence, replacing the recently resigned Muhammadu Badaru.
Ibe argued that placing non-military personnel in such critical defense roles during a period of heightened insecurity was a failure of judgment.
Atiku’s aide further questioned the competence of the initial appointments.
Ibe said, “It is now crystal clear that the state of insecurity in Nigeria is what it is because President Tinubu prioritised politics in the appointment of those saddled with the jobs of security.
“How does he explain that in a season of heightened insecurity, both the Minister of Defence and Minister of State for Defence are not former military personnel with experiences in operational and administrative aspects of military affairs.
“They are both former Governors of the states of Zamfara and Jigawa. One is an accountant while the other a teacher, who, as Governor, achieved little in stemming the terrorism and banditry that defined his era.
“This is yet another confirmation of the trial and error model of the Tinubu-led administration.”
