You are one of them, save yourself if you can – Mahdi Shehu to NNPCL boss

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL Bayo Ojulari

Human rights activist, Mahdi Shehu, has reacted to the statement credited to the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan Ojuluri, who recently raised alarm that he was “under attack.”

Ojuluri’s remarks were reported by DAILY POST on Thursday, August 28, 2025, sparking widespread debate across social media and the political space.

The NNPCL boss made this disclosure while receiving a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, led by its President, Comrade Festus Osifo, at the company’s headquarters in Abuja

In a terse response posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Shehu dismissed Ojuluri’s outcry, suggesting that he was complicit in the very system he now claims is targeting him.

“You are one of them. Save yourself if you can,” Shehu wrote.

Mahdi Shehu’s sharp retort reflects ongoing public frustration over alleged corruption, mismanagement, and lack of accountability within the oil sector.

While Ojuluri has not provided specific details of the alleged “attack,” analysts argue that his statement may point to mounting internal power struggles or external pressures linked to reforms in the oil and gas industry.

Shehu’s intervention has further intensified the conversation, placing both Ojuluri and the NNPCL under greater scrutiny.
