Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has advised men to marry only one wife, claiming that doing so is essential for a long and peaceful life.
Eedris revealed that he met his wife in September 2003 after abstaining from sexual relationships for five years. He believes that God specifically prepared her for him, and that his love is meant for no one else.
He emphasized the strength of their bond by sharing how, two decades into their marriage, his wife selflessly donated a kidney to save his life—a gesture he sees as confirmation of their divine connection. He stated, “God gave me my own wife, not another person’s wife. Why would I let another woman give birth to my child?”
While he acknowledged that African traditions and Islam permit polygamy, he cautioned that truly loving multiple women equally is unrealistic. Eedris described polygamous households as often being fraught with tension and conflict.
He added, “We are allowed to practice polygamy, and Islam permits it if you love women equally. But realistically, you can only love one woman sincerely. As men, we need to be wise. If you want a long life and a happy home, make sure one woman bears all your children. This is the path to a sweet and peaceful life.”
