‘You Have No Moral Authority To Lecture Anyone On Prudence’ – APC Blasts Peter Obi, Defends Tinubu’s Borrowing

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has slammed the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his comment on President Bola Tinubu‘s borrowings.

Naijaonpoint reports that Peter Obi had recently urged accountants to confront the Tinubu-led Federal Government over what he called “reckless borrowings”.

However, Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Thursday titled ‘Peter Obi’s Borrowing Hypocrisy: Physician, Heal Thyself’, berated the former Governor of Anambra state’s criticism of Tinubu’s borrowings.

Oladejo maintained that borrowing under the administration of President Tinubu is intended to fund development through the building of critical infrastructure.

The APC chieftain advised Peter Obi to play to his strengths in politics, “as topics bordering on finance, economy, development, and social policy remain his enduring handicap.”

According to him, Peter Obi has no moral authority to lecture anyone about prudence.

Oladejo said that Peter Obi had consistently displayed extravagant tendencies, adding that it was a contradiction for him to be giving sermons on the prudent management of resources.

He said, “First, borrowing is not inherently reckless. What matters is purpose and prudence.

“Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, borrowing is strategic, tied to critical infrastructure, energy, transportation, and productive sectors.

“This is the globally accepted practice-even the most advanced economies borrow to fund growth.

“Second, Peter Obi has no moral authority to lecture anyone about prudence.

“Nigerians remember that as governor, he left behind unpaid pensions, collapsing infrastructure, and poor human capital indices.

“For someone who flew around the world in private jets during his campaign while sermonising about cutting costs, the contradictions are glaring.”
