Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has faulted the single-term proposal of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, if they are elected as president in 2027.

Naijaonpoint reports that Peter Obi and Amaechi, who are part of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition planning to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, have declared their intention to contest for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

Both men have also promised that if they are elected in 2027, they will serve only a single term in office to allow the emergence of a Northerner as Nigeria’s president in 2031.

However, El-Rufai, who recently said he has no political ambition, dismissed the promises of Amaechi and Peter Obi while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme on Sunday.

El-Rufai stated that Amaechi and Peter Obi are aware that it is impossible to effect any meaningful change within four years.

He remarked, “Amaechi and Peter Obi are former governors, and they know that at least you need eight years to make meaningful changes.”

El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), also asked members of the ADC to put their presidential and other ambitions aside for now so that the party’s structure can be strengthened.
