‘You Were Brought Through Backdoor’ – Chaos As Shaibu, Omobayo Clash Over Who Represents Edo At Former Deputy Governors’ Forum

Shaibu and Omobayo

Drama erupted between Philip Shaibu and Omobayo Godwins over who should represent Edo State at the Former Deputy Governors’ Forum during its fourth annual national conference.

Naijaonpoint learnt that the clash began after Omobayo was introduced as the former deputy governor at the event in Abuja on Tuesday, prompting Shaibu to object publicly.

According to Channels Television, the event briefly descended into chaos as Shaibu and Omobayo argued over who was legitimate.

Speaking after the incident, Shaibu described the introduction as improper, stressing that Omobayo was never elected but brought in through the back door.

According to Shaibu, a court judgement had declared his removal illegal and that the office was never vacant.

He said, “He brought him in through the back door.”

In response, Omobayo described the clash as almost a national disgrace, stressing that he had tried to remain calm.

Omobayo said Shaibu, whom he still regarded as an elder brother, should accept the court case as a sad reality to live with.

He added, “I never made myself deputy governor. The incident is almost a national disgrace.”

Recall that Philip Shaibu was impeached as Edo Deputy Governor, serving under Godwin Obaseki, in April 2024 and replaced by Omobayo Godwins.

However, a court later ruled Shaibu’s impeachment unlawful and reinstated him.
