Angel Studios has released the first trailer for its upcoming biopic Young Washington. Depicting the early life of President George Washington, Joe Erwin’s movie stars William Franklyn-Miller, Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Mary-Louise Parker, Kelsey Grammer, and more. It was co-written by director Erwin as well as Tom Provost and Diederik van Hoogstraten.
The title and the trailer both suggest that the movie will focus on the future first president’s younger years, long before he became a leader of the American Revolution, with breakout star Franklyn-Miller (who has credits for Arrow and Medici) taking on the lead role and the longtime A-listers portraying those he answered to at the time.
Young Washington will be released in theaters on July 3, 2026, in time for the 250th anniversary of the United States. Check out the first trailer for Young Washington below:
The Young Washington team is calling on potential audiences to help “make this the #1 movie on America’s 250th,” with tickets already available to pre-order. This is incredibly early for tickets to go on sale, proving the event they want to make out of it; notably, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey tickets also went on sale a full year ahead of time.
The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17, 2026, meaning Young Washington only has the box office to itself for two weeks before it will be competing with this action juggernaut from the Oscar-winning director. Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s release date isn’t until July 31, but a proven box office draw will be its biggest competitor, with Minions 3 coming out on July 1.
