Your Statement Is Hypocritical – Osun PDP Blasts APC For Meddling In Speaker’s Rift With Monarch

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State chapter, has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for meddling in a private royal disagreement.

Speaking via a statement by its director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, the PDP questioned the reason for the APC’s interference in the private dispute between the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and the traditional ruler of his hometown, the Alasi of Asi, Oba Olasunkanmi Oyewale Isaac.

Bamiji insisted that the opposition’s press statement was not only hypocritical but also a calculated attempt to weaponise a sensitive matter.

The PDP urged the APC to desist from fanning the embers in a matter already being handled by relevant authorities.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a recent press statement issued by the troubled opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, wherein it took undue liberty, occasioned by their pensionable idleness into a private disagreement between the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Right Honorable Adewale Egbedun, and the traditional ruler of his hometown, the Alasi of Asi, Oba Olasunkanmi Oyewale Isaac.

“We find the APC’s statement not only hypocritical but also a calculated attempt to weaponise a sensitive matter for cheap political capital. We strongly condemn such meddling and urge the APC to refrain from fanning the embers of discord in a matter that is already receiving the attention of relevant authorities.

“Contrary to the sensational narrative being peddled by the opposition, the PDP is fully aware that the matter arose from a string of threats to the life of the Speaker, which preceded the unfortunate outburst captured in the now-viral video. These threats, which have since been formally reported, are under active investigation by the Nigerian Police.

“It is therefore reckless and dangerous for the APC to jump to conclusions and attempt to incite the public against the Speaker, all in a bid to stay politically relevant. We caution that such actions border on incitement and must not be taken lightly.

“We also urge the police to widen the scope of their investigations to include members of the opposition, particularly in view of the APC’s growing desperation to destabilize Osun State, having suffered an overwhelming rejection by the good people of the state.

“To our revered Royal Father, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olasunkanmi Oyewale Isaac, we appeal for continued restraint and wisdom. Kabiyesi, we acknowledge the deep and cordial relationship that has existed between you and your son, the Speaker. We trust in your magnanimity to rise above external provocations and allow for a thorough investigation that will unearth those behind the alleged threats on the life of Mr Speaker.

“We remain confident in the capacity of the Speaker, Right Honourable Adewale Egbedun, to not only demonstrate leadership in reconciling with his father but also to continue to serve with integrity and focus as a representative of his people and the number one lawmaker in the state.

“We urge all stakeholders to maintain peace and decency as security operatives carry out their lawful duties. Let us resist the temptation to fall for the APC’s trap of manufactured outrage and mob sentiment designed to scare young, vibrant leaders out of political participation.

“The Osun PDP stands firmly with the beliefs that the path to lasting resolution lies in maturity, investigation, and truth, not political theatrics of the good for nothing, Apc Never Do Wells.”
