Your Wear OS device can now act as your hotel key

Wear OS has become an extremely useful wearables platform over the years. This is thanks to the stream of updates that Google pushes to the operating system. Well, according to a new report, a new Wear OS update can make your phone act as your hotel key and more.

Wear OS is currently making its way to devices, and people have been waiting for it. Samsung has just recently brought Wear OS 5 to the Galaxy Watch 6. This update brings features like screen size optimizations for larger devices, new fitness tools, new apps, and more. If your device is eligible to receive Wear OS 5, then you should be on the lookout for it to reach it at some point.

You’ll soon use your Wear OS device as your hotel key

Smartphones are extremely convenient devices to use, but smartwatches are oftentimes much more convenient. It’s quicker and easier to lift your wrist than to take your phone out of your pocket. This is why new additions to smartwatch operating systems are so welcomed.

Google released some new updates to its Google Play Services, and they make using your smartwatch that much better. This update adds support for access cards. This means that you’ll be able to store different types of cards on your watch to use them when you need them.

For instance, you can store your hotel key on your watch. When you need to access your hotel, you’ll just need to hold your watch up to the reader, and you’ll be able to unlock it via NFC. This eliminates the trouble of having to take your card out of your pocket. This update doesn’t only apply to hotel keys. It also includes campus IDs and corporate badges.

Google started releasing this update to Google Play Services (v24.47). Since it’s still rolling out, you may need to wait for it to reach your device. Depending on your region, you may receive it over the next couple of weeks.
