A 22-year-old man, Abubakar Hassan, sustained gunshot injuries during a raid conducted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Ngurore Market in Yola North Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Naijaonpoint reports that the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on December 10, 2025, during a raid targeting a suspected drug den within the market.
Sources who spoke with security expert, Zagazola Makama, on the incident, noted that the NDLEA operatives stormed a ghetto inside the market and began firing sporadically.
According to the source, the action of the NDLEA operatives saw Hassan, a resident of the Jambutu community, being hit by a stray bullet in the stomach and right leg.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ngurore was said to have visited the scene shortly after the incident. The victim was immediately evacuated to Banene Hospital in Ngurore, where he is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding well.
The shooting has sparked concerns among residents who criticised the use of live ammunition in crowded public spaces.
They urged security agencies to exercise greater restraint during operations to avoid endangering innocent lives.
As of press time, the NDLEA has not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
