Tension escalated in Eruku community, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Wednesday as angry residents barricaded the Kwara–Kogi highway to protest the latest terrorist attack that claimed lives and left several worshippers abducted.
From as early as 6 am, youths mounted heavy logs, planks, tyres and other barricades across the interstate route, bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt.
Dozens of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway as protesters vowed not to vacate the road until authorities take decisive action.
Motorists travelling between the North and South were forced to park and wait, while some commuters trekked long distances to bypass the blockade.
Speaking to reporters, some demonstrators said the blockade was a desperate attempt to draw the government’s attention to the worsening insecurity plaguing Eruku and neighbouring communities.
They accused authorities of failing to protect border towns despite repeated warnings and previous attacks.
According to residents, the latest assault occurred on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, when armed terrorists invaded Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, during a worship session.
The attackers reportedly shot and killed at least three members before abducting several others.
The incident has thrown the community into deep grief, with churches cancelling midweek activities and residents afraid to move freely after dusk.
The protesting youths listed several demands, including, immediate deployment of security personnel, sustained military presence along the Kwara–Kogi border communities, improved intelligence gathering and patrols to deter cross-border attacks
They urged the Kwara State Government and federal security agencies to treat the Eruku attack as a national emergency and not an isolated incident.
