Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved the transmission of the bill granting full autonomy to the state’s 44 Local Government Councils to the State House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this aims to empower local governments with financial and administrative independence.

This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Friday.

He said that the governor stated this during the 31st Executive Council meeting, approving the transmission of the bill to the Assembly.

“The proposed law aims to grant financial and administrative independence to Kano’s 44 local government councils, enabling them to manage resources and execute projects autonomously,“he said.

The governor explained that the autonomy will enable councils to manage resources directly, execute projects without delays, and promote accountability, thereby accelerating grassroots development.

“He believes this reform will deepen democracy in the state and has directed the bill’s transmission to the State House of Assembly for consideration.( NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
