ZAMFARA: APC clinches Kaura-Namoda south assembly seat in by-election

Nigeria elections 1

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Kamilu Sa’idu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the Kaura-Namoda South State Constituency by-election in Zamfara State.

Announcing the results yesterday, the Returning Officer, Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University Gusau, said Sa’idu polled 1,181 votes in the supplementary election, defeating Muhammad Lawal Kurya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 194 votes.

Overall, the APC secured 8,182 votes across the constituency, while the PDP finished with 5,544 votes.

The supplementary poll was conducted in two registration areas — Sakajiki (two polling units) and Kyambarawa (three polling units) — after last Saturday’s election was declared inconclusive.

The initial exercise was halted because the margin of lead between the two leading candidates was lower than the number of collected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the affected areas.

With his victory confirmed, Kamilu Sa’idu will now represent Kaura-Namoda South Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
