Zamfara APC Demands Arrest Of PDP Women Leader Over Alleged Threats

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the immediate arrest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Leader in the state, Hajiya Rabi Madawaki, over alleged inciting and threatening remarks made during a recent public event.

In a statement issued on Monday by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party accused Madawaki of making “unguarded and dangerous” utterances aimed at intimidating voters ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Friday, May 16, during a political gathering in Gusau attended by the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal. Speaking in Hausa, Madawaki allegedly declared that “anyone who does not vote for Dauda, we will maim, beat, and kill him,” a statement the APC says she repeated multiple times for emphasis.

Gusau described the alleged threats as a blatant attempt to incite political violence and suppress voter freedom, warning that such rhetoric has no place in a democratic society.

“Elections should be about ideas, promises, and policies—not intimidation or threats to life. These are the very practices Nigerians are working hard to eradicate from our political space,” the statement read.

The party further alleged that Madawaki’s remarks could be indicative of a broader plan by the PDP-led administration in the state to intimidate the electorate.

It called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to take immediate action by arresting and prosecuting Madawaki, noting that she does not enjoy any form of immunity under the law.

The APC also drew attention to what it described as a “pattern of violence and lawlessness” under Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration, including past incidents involving armed PDP supporters, some of whom were reportedly apprehended by security operatives.

Revisiting the 2023 governorship election, the APC reiterated its stance that the poll was marred by irregularities and undue influence, particularly the alleged involvement of military personnel who, it claims, tilted the outcome in favour of the PDP.

“As the leading opposition party in Zamfara, we will not be cowed by threats. Our commitment remains firm—to defend democracy and ensure that the will of the people is respected,” Gusau concluded.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the PDP nor Hajiya Rabi Madawaki had responded to the allegations.
