THE Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two councillors and a local cleric by armed men in Tsauni community, Gusau, yesterday night.

Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, told journalists that the victims—councillors representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun Local Government Area, along with the community Imam—were taken in front of their homes around 7:00 p.m., shortly after evening prayers.

Tsauni, located behind the Federal Road Safety Corps’ sector headquarters in Gusau, has in recent years sheltered internally displaced persons fleeing banditry from nearby areas.

According to Maradun Local Government Chairman, Sanusi Gamagiwa, six people were initially abducted, but three were later released, leaving the councillors and the Imam still in captivity.

“So far, the bandits have not reached out with any demands,” he said.

The police have deployed personnel to the area and urged residents to provide timely information to aid security operations.
