Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney are reportedly no longer close after working together for six years on Euphoria.
Sources say the fallout stemmed from political differences and recent controversy involving Sweeney.
According to reports, Zendaya, 29, has declined to appear with Sweeney, 28, during press events for the upcoming season of the HBO series. Insiders claim the two will also avoid being photographed together at red-carpet events. One source said Zendaya does not want to be seen as supporting Sweeney’s political views or the reaction to her recent advertising campaign.
The tension reportedly began after an American Eagle ad featuring Sweeney sparked criticism for its tagline, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
The play on words was accused of referencing eugenics, and backlash followed when reports surfaced that Sweeney is a registered Republican.
Former President Donald Trump responded to the controversy by saying, “Now I love her ad.” Zendaya has previously spoken out against Trump, writing after his 2016 victory that she was “speechless, petrified, heartbroken and weary.”
Both actors are set to return for the next season of Euphoria, but insiders say their off-screen relationship has become distant and fans fear the upcoming season of the show could be its last.
