Two Dead, Shops Razed In Lagos Gas Explosion

A gas explosion at a gas retail shop in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, has resulted in the death of at least two people, with three others sustaining severe injuries.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the fire also destroyed four shops on Tuesday at Abule Pan, along the Lekki Epe Expressway in the Ibeju Lekki area.

In a statement posted on his official X handle on Wednesday, Hundeyin lamented the recurring nature of such incidents, urging vigilance and safety consciousness to prevent avoidable tragedies.

... reads, “It is just a week and we have recorded another gas explosion at a gas retail shop, this time in Ibeju-Lekki.

“Sadly, two persons died, three persons sustained injuries and four shops got razed. Let us prevent avoidable deaths. Let us be safety-conscious at all times”!

This latest incident comes just a week after a pregnant woman and 21 others sustained varying degrees of injury in the gas explosion that occurred at the Alayabiagba community in the Ajegunle-Apapa area of the state.
