R-rated movies are hard to come by. Many filmmakers and studios resist that label because of potential complications with marketing and how widely its shown in theaters. Yet that same rating is what draws a significant subset of cinephiles to particular films. While its true that some R-rated films earn that label through gratuitous violence, sex, nudity, etc., others use said elements to heighten the story. Then there are raunchy PG-13 films that somehow avoided an R-rating.
