Over on X (formerly known as Twitter), fans felt absolutely shortchanged by the too-brief run of “NCIS: Hawai’i,” particularly because the show brought diversity to the franchise — both with its female lead Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and its depiction of queer relationships on-screen. As @DanaPiccoli wrote, “Oh [‘NCIS: Hawai’i’] fans, I am so sorry. Heartbreaking casualty for a dedicated fanbase. A big loss for LGBTQ + rep,” finishing ... with the hashtag “CancelYourGays.” @emmarinato got right to the point: “not [‘Station 19,’ the ABC firefighter drama] and [‘NCIS: Hawai’i’] getting cancelled the same year, imagine how exhausted my sapphic ass is.” Apparently, @MasonTaylor1312 was just inconsolable, saying, “Actually sitting here sobbing over the fact that [‘NCIS: Hawai’i’] is canceled this is wrong.”
Jason Antoon, who plays Ernie Malik on the show, also weighed in and thanked the fans. “This business is brutal and makes no sense,” he wrote. “Mahalo to all and everyone who supported us – we had soooo much fun. Best and nicest cast and crew ever!”
The series finale of “NCIS: Hawai’i” airs on Monday, May 6 on CBS.
