CHIEFTAINS of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid heartfelt respects to the late ex-President Umaru Yar’Adua on the 14th anniversary of his passing.
Yar’Adua, who served as the governor of Katsina State in Nigeria’s North-West region from May 1999 to May 2007, went on to win the 2007 presidential election, succeeding his party colleague, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He held the presidency position from May 2007 until his passing in May 2010 at the age of 58.
After his demise, his deputy, former Bayelsa State governor Goodluck Jonathan, assumed the presidency.

Aminu Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator for Sokoto South, described Yar’Adua as a “true democrat” known for his strong principles and respect for the rule of law.
Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President, remembered Yar’Adua’s focus on strengthening institutions to anchor democracy on laws and principles rather than individual whims.
Shehu Sani, a former Senator from Kaduna Central, lauded Yar’Adua for his modest lifestyle and efforts to improve the lives of the less privileged.
Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the late President’s brother and Senator representing Katsina Central, lauded him as an exceptional leader and democracy icon.
James Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, highlighted Yar’Adua’s dedication to upholding the rule of law, combating corruption, and promoting national unity, leaving behind a lasting legacy despite his shortened tenure.
